Hospital Unit Coordinator

What does a Hospital Unit Coordinator do?

The Hospital Unit Coordinator serves as a communication liaison between administrators, nurses, physicians, patients, and other members of a health care system. Hospital Unit Coordinators need a good working knowledge of medical terminology, as they are responsible for transcribing physicians orders, working with patients charts and scheduling tests and/or appointments.

The Hospital Unit Coordinators typically graphs or charts information onto appropriate forms, deliver messages to unit personnel, answer phones, operate communication devices on the unit, prepare consent forms, greet visitors, order supplies and keep work areas neat and clean.

The Hospital Unit Coordinator may also distribute patient menus, mail, flowers and messages to the patient, order daily lab studies, perform patient admission, and transfer / discharge related duties.  All HUC's are able to effectively operate a computer terminal for input and retrieval of patient data.

Hospital Unit Coordinators can work in hospitals, nursing homes, medical clinics, and other areas where medical / clerical employees are needed.
